Vacationers who like to enjoy a little added adventure on their trip are in for a major surprise this summer! Gatlinburg, Tennessee is set to unveil their newest attraction on May 17th of this year. Rather than offering tourists a rollercoaster or a thrill ride, this is called “SkyBridge” and it’s the longest pedestrian suspension bridge that is currently in North America.
SkyBridge offers individuals the chance to walk 680 feet across a foot bridge suspended in the air, guiding them across a large valley and into the Smoky Mountains.
Obviously, this attraction is not for the faint of heart or those who have a fear of heights! Stationed 140 feet in the air, the bridge keeps travelers high above the ground.
At one point in the bridge, the floor turns to glass, giving visitors the opportunity to completely soak up their surroundings.
While the thought of being 140 feet in the air and standing on a sheet of glass is enough to turn the stomachs of some people, other tourists will certainly enjoy the adventure along with the breathtaking scenes of the surrounding mountains and foliage.
To keep pedestrians safe, the bridge is surrounded by a fence on either side to prevent accidental falls.
Does walking across the bridge sound a little too exhausting to you? If so, then the Skylift Park, which is home to SkyBridge, also offers a chairlift that will make the trip for you, giving you the chance to observe your surroundings without the long walk.
The chairlift goes a little higher in the air, taking passengers a stunning 500 feet above the ground so that they can get a view of the area from Crockett Mountain.
The chairlift does require a fee of $15 per adult and $12 per child.
The SkyBridge website is boasting that the attraction will have no time limit, giving guests the chance to walk across the bridge at their own pace, taking pictures and basking in the beauty of their surroundings.
